Toledo Full Day Tour

Toledo is 75 Km from Madrid, on top of a granite hill which is almost completely surrounded by the river Tajo. Toledo’s location is as unique as the location of Venice or Bruges.
Throughout its history, Toledo has always been known as the ‘City of Tolerance’ or 'City of the Three Cultures’, as Jews, Muslims and Christians lived together relatively peacefully.

The first thing we will do in this tour is to go around de city so you will be able to observe one of the prettiest views in the whole of Europe.
To do so, we will take you a short way along the ‘ring road’ from which, apart from the city itself, you can see the river Tajo and its two old bridges: the ‘Alcántara' and 'San Martín’.

Next, we visit the old city and walk along its narrow and twisted streets, gradually approaching the main monuments and museums. You will have the opportunity of entering those you may be interested in. Please note that some of them close one day in the week.
Among other things, we will show you the following:
The Alcázar - The Cathedral - Santo Tomé church - The Greco museum - El Tránsito synagogue - Santa María la Blanca synagogue - San Juan de los Reyes monastery.
One traditional art from Toledo is the damasquino: creating figures with threads of gold and silver that are embedded into other metals by gentle tapping with a tiny hammer. Sword making is also important; this skill began in Roman times, and reached its peak during the Arab rule and the Christian reconquest. Lastly, pottery is another artistic specialty of the city.
If you enjoy handicrafts, please don’t forget to mention it to your driver; he can take you to some of the workshops where you will be able to see how the craftsmen do their work.

A cozy restaurant, with rustic decoration, large windows, and set in the heart of the old Jewish quarter. They offer a tasty traditional cuisine.

A budget option, with simple table service, offering high quality regional dishes. Also offered are tapas and a choice of menus.

Toledo se encuentra a 90 Km de Madrid, en lo alto de un promontorio granítico que el río Tajo, con un cauce profundamente encajado, rodea y aísla por el este, sur y oeste. Su emplazamiento es tan original como el de Venecia o Brujas.
A lo largo de toda su historia, Toledo ha sido conocida siempre por ser la 'Ciudad de la Tolerancia' o 'Ciudad de las Tres Culturas', con la convivencia relativamente pacífica de judíos, musulmanes y cristianos.

Lo primero que haremos en este tour es enseñarte la ciudad desde fuera, para que puedas observar una de las vistas más bonitas que jamás hayas disfrutado.
Para ello utilizaremos el vehículo y haremos una pequeña ruta en la que, además de la ciudad, podrás ver el río tajo y sus dos puentes antiguos: Puente de Alcántara y Puente de San Martín.

A continuación entraremos en la ciudad y haremos un recorrido por sus calles estrechas y retorcidas, acercándonos a los principales monumentos y museos. Tendrás la posibilidad de entrar en aquéllos que más de interesen. Ten en en cuenta que algunos cierran un día a la semana.

Algo típico de Toledo es el damasquinado, un trabajo de artesanía que consiste en la realización de figuras y dibujos mediante la incrustación láminas de oro y plata en otros metales. Igualmente importante es la fabricación de espadas, que se remonta a la época romana y que alcanzó una importancia increíble bajo la dominación árabe y durante la Reconquista. Y por último la cerámica.
Si te interesa la artesanía no dejes de mencionárselo al conductor; él te puede llevar a algunos talleres donde podrás ver cómo los artesanos realizan su labor.
